Cambodian Genocide
Khmer Rouge, a group of communist proposed to make a new Cambodia so it will be pure. Since they were in charge of Cambodia, they could do anything they want. The leader of Khmer Rouge was Pol Pot, and he ordered that there will be no different social classes in Cambodia. Khmer Rouge eliminated all the people with an education such as doctors, lawyers, and teachers. He also eliminated people with certain beliefs such as Christians and Muslims. Then all the people in good shape he took to work in labor camp. He took everyone from their homes and villages and brought them to labor camps right outside of Phnom Penh. He made everyone work without getting fed and if they refused to work they will get killed. This led to dying from starvation and dehydration. If a person was in perfect condition for working, they could still be killed for reasons such as wearing glasses, for crying, for smiling, for knowing a foreign language, and being in a relationship. Other people that will resist to go to go to work in the labor camps would be tortured in a camp called S-21. Khmer Rouge tortured the people in really harsh ways such as ripping of their nipples, ripping of their nails, whipping them, drowning their heads in water, destroying their genitals, and hanging them. After the four years of torture and killings, Vietnam invaded Cambodia and drove out Khmer Rouge. In result of the genocide, 2 million people were killed.
